Torpedoverkstedet

Torpedoverkstedet (The Torpedo Workshop) is a showroom that conveys stories from World War II. Torpedoverkstedet was built by the German occupation forces during World War II, and at that time functioned as a torpedo workshop for the German seaplanes that operated from Sola Sjø in the heart of Sømmevågen. In the aftermath of World War II, the building had been used by Forsvaret (the Norwegian Armed Forces).
In 2014, Sola municipality bought parts of Sømmevågen from Forsvaret. The aim of the purchase was to secure an area that in the long run could form the basis for a larger museum and recreation area in Sømmevågen. Among the buildings that were included in the purchase was Torpedoverkstedet. As the building needed maintenance and had to be upgraded to a certain standard to fulfill its new role as a showroom, the municipality started a major renovation work.
